Huawei honor 8 pro Details

Introduction:

Honor 8 Pro is the successor of the Honor 8 but inherits lots of features of the Huawei P10 which is a plus point. HiSilicon Kirin 960 with a vibrant 5.7-inch QHD display makes for a brilliant device. Huawei went back to the drawing board as they revamped the design with this iteration. The Chinese OEM fine-tuned Honor 8 Pro to deliver the sweet flagship experience at a cheaper price point.

Display and Design:

A revamped design is always welcomed. It takes some of its design from the P10 instead of the Honor 8. The back glass of the Honor 8 was replaced with a metal back on the Honor 8. The beautiful 5.7-inch display is protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The notification LED is located inside the front earpiece. It’s a beautiful looking phone with robust build quality. The phone has a large footprint and has weight, but it does not feel heavy at all due to proper distribution.

The display is a 5.7-inch LTPS IPS LCD panel with a QHD display. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 551 PPI density. The display is very sharp and looks beautiful. The media consumption experience on this phone is certainly a delight. Furthermore, the display is very bright and provides for easy outdoor visibility. The screen-to-body ratio sits at 73.6% and gives you a lot of screen space. The bezels might not be minimal, but they are not very huge either. All around, the user experience was amazing.

Performance:

Huawei went again with their in-house SoC, the HiSilicon Kirin 960, in the Honor 8 Pro. It inherits the Kirin 960 from the P10. The Kirin 960 and the Mali-G71 MP8 under the hood provide exceptional performance for the price. The Kirin 960 is their flagship SoC with 4x2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. These cores work together to deliver a snappy user experience and allows the company to put dual lenses on the phone. The Kirin 960 falls just short of the Snapdragon 835 and is better than the Snapdragon 821. In day-to-day use, you will find that the SoC is fast enough and you would not feel much difference.

Because it has a metal back, the phone does get warm when GPU is used extensively. The rear-mounted fingerprint scanner is a beast. Huawei makes one of the best fingerprint scanners and they did not disappoint with this one. It runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and is upgradeable to Android 8.0 Oreo. EMUI 8.0 is slapped on top of 7.0 Nougat. The UI resembles many other Chinese ROMs. The UI is buttery smooth, and you will not experience any hiccups due to its 6GB RAM and 64 GB ROM. The hybrid SIM slot allows you to add a microSD slot as well.

Honor 8 Pro keeps the headphone jack and has a Type-C connector at the bottom. Right next to the Type-C connector is the single-firing speaker. It gets very loud without distortion, but it is definitely not good as stereo speakers.

Camera:

The only thing similar between the Honor 8 Pro and Honor 8 is the camera module on the back. It inherits the dual lens setup from its predecessor. It has two sensors. One of them is an RGB sensor and the other is a monochrome sensor. Both are 12MP with f/2.2 PDAF & laser AF. Under good-lighting, the color reproduction is natural, and the noise levels are low. The dynamic range is very good, and these characteristics work together to give you good-looking results.

The low-light performance is decent. There will be a little bit of noise, but pictures taken in less light are usable. Lack of OIS means that the shutter speed at night-time is increased. The dual lens setup works together to provide variable aperture settings with help of camera software. The bokeh effect is lively and sharp.

It can shoot videos at 2160p@30fps and 1080p@60fps. Video stability is taken care of EIS. The quality of the video is top-notch. The clips are well-detailed and the dynamic range is good.

The front camera gets a tiny bump in specifications. It is still an 8MP shooter but comes with f/2.0 aperture. It can record videos at 1080p@30fps. The front camera gets lots of detail and is good for everyday use.

Battery:

A massive phone needs a massive battery to function. The non-removable 4000 mAh battery is a beast when it comes to battery backup. A full day of usage is guaranteed even with intensive use. Lastly, the Type-C connector and the quick charge brick in the box can help you to recharge your phone quickly.
