Display and Design:

The HTC Desire 12+ features a minimalistic yet eye-catching design with thin bezels on the front and a dual-camera setup with the fingerprint sensor and HTC logo on the rear placed perfectly in the center. At first glance, the HTC Desire 12+ gives a premium look and feel because of the polished liquid surface look. The smartphone is made up of high-quality acrylic which is durable. The overall build quality of the smartphone is impressive but it is not waterproof though so you should best keep it away from spills.

As for the display, there is a crisp HD+ 6-inch display on the HTC Desire 12+. The level of clarity and the colors are great but the sharpness is not as very high since the Desire 12+ has a pixel density of just 281 pixels per inch. The display is not anything extraordinary but it does the job for day-to-day routine tasks and you will barely notice the lack of details unless you are playing high-graphic games or watching 1080p videos. 

Performance:

The HTC Desire 12+ comes with the budget chipset, Qualcomm Snapdragon 450. Despite the budget label, the octa-core processor and Adreno 506 GPU on the Snapdragon 450 fare quite well in handling day-to-day tasks and multitasking. Unless you are a power user, you should be satisfied with the overall performance of the HTC Desire 12+. The smartphone has a decent score of 73,468 in AnTuTu 7 which is just about standard for lower midrange smartphones.

Camera:

HTC has put in a notable camera setup on the Desire 12+ with a dual 13 MP + 2 MP rear camera which includes depth sensing for improved detail in the photographs. The rear camera can take great photographs with good contrast, vivid colors, and high sharpness, particularly because the camera duo work together to offer high level of detail in the photographs. Lowlight photography, on the other hand, is pretty mediocre. The selfie camera is a standard 8 MP shooter that can be used for taking casual selfies and group photos. 

Battery and Connectivity:

The battery life of the HTC Desire 12+ is quite poor. Despite the large screen size, the smartphone has a battery of just 2965 mAh. With moderate use, the battery is able to give only 18 – 20 hours of juice which means that you cannot last through an entire day while making calls, browsing through the web, and watching videos. There is no fast charging on board too which means that the Desire 12+ will take around 2 hours to charge to a 100% from 0%. 

HTC has all the basics covered with the connectivity though since the smartphone comes with Bluetooth 4.2, FM Radio, and microUSB 2.0. There is no NFC but you seldom expect the feature in budget level smartphones.
