Introduction:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is an affordable smartphone that is part of the renowned Redmi series by Xiaomi. The Redmi Note 5A is essentially the budget version of the mid-range Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. The smartphone provides great value for money with a powerful processor, adequate storage, and an impressive camera.

Display and Design:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A comes with a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. There is nothing spectacular about the display but despite the stretched-out HD resolution, there is no sign of pixilation and the image is sharp. The blacks are good and the Redmi Note 5A comes with excellent contrast as well.

In terms of design, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A features the standard unibody design which is accustomed to Xiaomi smartphones. The smartphone has an aluminum frame with a plastic body which is rigid and the build quality is solid as well. There is a fingerprint scanner on the rear and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 as protection on the front. 

Performance:

The Redmi Note 5A features the entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chipset with the Adreno 505 GPU. The MIUI 9.2 + Android 7.1.2 combination performs quite well and the smartphone handles multitasking and moderate browsing easily without signs of lag. The benchmark scores for the Redmi Note 5A are 942, 8084, and 45642 in Basemark OS II 2.0, Basemark X, and AnTuTu 6. 

Camera:

The camera on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A performs quite well which is something you would not normally associate with Xiaomi smartphones. The back camera has a 13MP sensor with auto-focus and HDR. The image quality is pretty good and the photos produced are sharp and detailed. The 16MP front camera, though, is the highlight of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A since it can take wide-angle selfies with adequate levels of detail, high contract, and excellent colors.

Battery and Connectivity:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A comes with 3080 mAh battery that has an endurance rating of 74 hours. The smartphone has enough juice to easily last through a single day of moderate to heavy use but the lack of fast charging means that it will take around 2 hours to charge the Redmi Note 5A to full. As for connectivity, there is Bluetooth 4.2, Infrared, FM Radio, and microUSB 2.0 connectivity but there is no NFC.
